Catfishing is great during the middle of summer. Use stinkbait, live bait, or cutbait on the bottom for them. I like to just throw a pole rigged up for Cats out there with a bobber on it and stick it in the bank. Then, I focus on others.
Bass fishing is not too good summer-fall. I shoot for when they spawn in April-May. Unless you can get there before a storm, when they stock up on food.Iit's gonna be a little tricky nevertheless.
Crappie is pretty good early fall. Use crappie minnows, maribou jigs, or some 2+inch curly tail grubs on jig heads and you should catch them if you find the right depth. They seem to change about 15ft - 10ft when its hot.
Walleye will be real good when the temp gets a little cooler. They will start rising up closer to the surface. During the summer try underneath docs or in shady/deep spots. Use spinners, and maybe try some Gulp! Minnows. They will get shreaded pretty quick and they are somewhat pricey though.
Hope I helped

The Ozarks are nice, but if you want to travel a little, there are some great places in other parts of the country. Check out this book or buy it online. Best Fly-Fishing book ever:

I don't know of any guided fishing trips, but I do know of some locations to fish in the Ozarks. The white river is a awesome trout river. I go to roaring river in Missouri quite a bit to fish for trout. A few more good locations would be the lower Illinois river in Oklahoma, or the lower Mountain fork river in southeast Oklahoma.

I would suggest you try either the White River in Arkansas, The North Fork of the White in Missouri or Taneycomo in Missouri. All three offer good, though very different trout fly fishing experiences and all three are close enough to tourist venues such as Branson and Springfield (home of Bass Pro Shops) in Missouri and other sites in Northwest Arkansas to keep the non fly fishers in the family entertained. As an aside, don't overlook the opportunities for smallmouth on the fly rod while you are in the area.

Drift slowly across shoals while dragging a jig along the bottom with a shiner/minnow. Once you land one stay in that spot. Give it the odd little bit of action like flutter the bait the odd time. They can hit quite light so feel for every vibration in the rod. Try a jig and twister tail too. Perhaps Black or brown or yellow. Use about 6 to 8 pound test line with a medium action rod.

Don't know the area your fishing. I fish Lake Erie. We use a medium action rod, a spinning reel (usually). In the spring we use hair jigs. mainly purple or black and purple. In the late spring/summer early fall we will use weight forward spinners, worm rigs, mayfly rigs (similar to worm harness) With live nightcrawlers. Late fall we fish from shore or close to it with suspending stick baits like smithwick rogue. This past spring I picked up a nice 12 lb. walley on the hair jig. Just a plain hair jig. No meat. We usually fish them on the bottom. But I changed up because no bites down there and was swimming it about halfway down.

BEST? With no price point I'd obviously try to find the highest priced reel on the market! LOL. But, here's an affordable one...

REEL - Pflueger President XT 6735XT Spinning reel.
ROD - St. Croix Triumph TRS70MF Spinning rod.
LINE - Sufix Elite 10 LB monofilament.
LURE - Bobby Garland Mo' Glo Jigheads 1/8OZ chartreuse, 3" black Berkley Powerbait Original Power Grub.

In my opinion, that would be my picks for an affordable, but reliable, walleye rod, reel, and line. Oh, and those Power Grub's should do very good as well.
