ice fishing michigan
Can you use regular fishing line for ice fishing?

If I where to fish with regular line in the middle if winter through a foot of ice, would it really be that bad?

this takes place in michigan if it matters. . .

Regular line would be ok. You will find that most ice fisherman will go with lighter and thinner diameter lines. If you are just getting into ice fishing I would suggest you take a look at IceShanty.com. This website has message boards with topics on everything having to do with ice fishing. Check it out.

ice fishing gadgets
What do you have to say about ice fishing Massachusetts?

How thick is the ice in your area? What have you caught or have been catching? What are you using for bait? What’s working, what’s not? Have any cool new gadgets? Where are you catching the big ones? Any tournaments coming up? Know any web sites that talk just about ice fishing? Come on ice fishermen give me some answers!!!

I live in Michigan and the ice here is about 7 inches average. It would be thicker but we’ve had lots of snow which insulates it. I don’t know about Massachusetts. Try your local library, they should have books or DVDs about ice fishing. Try a google search of ice fishing. You will come up with many sites. I can tell you that first and last ice is always best. It’s kind of right in the middle now and the fishing is kind of slow. Dawn and dusk are the best times to try. Minnows and wax worms for bait per usual. Not going to tell you my spots though. You’ll have to find those your self. Good luck. Well I will tell you my best spot for catching big ones all the time is a lake in southern Michigan. Hope that helps.
