Deep Sea Fishing in the USA?

I am thinking about going deep sea fishing this summer. I have been several times at Carolina Beach but never caught anything real big. This summer I am wanting to catch some big fish can anyone recommend a place to go? The name of the charter and the location. Thank you very much.
How is Marlin fishing in Florida are the chances of catching some good? It looks to cost about $1400 is this high for Marlin fishing?

Wow, it’s hard to believe people don’t believe you can catch big fish on a head boat. I’ve been involved in the industry here in the northeast and can honestly say while we don’t get them every trip, most days we do. Not always the 50-60 pound lunkers, but on many good trips an average angler can take home a bag of cod and haddock in the 5-20 pound range. These are the two primary species we hunt for, however there are many more we catch on a average day. Cod, haddock, pollock, cusk, redfish, wolf fish, all jewels of the North Atlantic. If the party boat scene is not for you, then the next best thing is the “6 pack charter”. This trip is a smaller boat, usually around 42 feet, and only takes 6 people or less.

rod and reel fishing
What is the best fishing rod and reel for catfish?

I am confused on what to buy…I don’t want to make the mistake of buying like a fly fishing rod/reel. Also, what is the best reel…spinning, etc. ??

Catfishing is about the only type of fishing I do except when fishing for cut bait.
Over the years of trial and error, I found many good combinations, but the one I am most favored to is the Abu Garcia Ambassador Red 6600CB with bait alert (clicker). Very smooth reel that is durable and most reliable. Also, for a beginner it is a superb reel because the setting can be adjusted for minimal backlashing.
Rods, there is many like the Ugly Stick series, but my favorite is the Cabela’s Whuppin’ Stick! Again durable and reliable to handle the big hogs! I like the longer rods myself, but that is different with each person who goes out fishing.
For line I use the original braided 50# spiderwire and 2/0 circle Lazer Hooks by Eagleclaw.
Rigging depends on where your fishing, river, lake, ect…
Good luck and enjoy the change going to a casting set up. It’s a whole new world of fishing.

What is a good fishing magazine about overall fishing?

I am looking for a fishing magazine thats talks about both fresh and saltwater. Baits, rods, reels, just about everyhting. Don’t want fish, or area specific neccesarilly.

There are numerous books out and about on the topics of fishing, but few among them concentrate on both fresh and saltwater fishing. You may be better off with two magazines (or even three) if you want to specialize on species like Walleye, Steelhead & Salmon, etc. For freshwater, I have never known a magazine better than Ron & Al Lindner’s In/Fisherman (under new ownership). Steelhead & Salmon is another classic. Alaska Fishing is GREAT! Western Outdoors covers both, but adds hunting as well. The list goes on and on. Check your local book store for examples.
